Frequently Asked Questions

What fees will I be charged?
Design fee - our fee for designing your site.  Our fees are very competitive.  Since we custom design all our sites, please contact us for a quote;
Web hosting charge - fee for hosting your site.
Domain name registration - this is the fee you pay to your IPP or a registering service to register your domain name (currently this is $35.00/year).

Do I need to hire a local website designer?
No, it is not necessary to hire a website designer in your local area.  There are many ways for us to get the information that we'll need for your website, such as:  fax, email, phone, or mail.

What counts as an image in terms of my website?
An image is any graphic that I create or manipulate and place on your website.  (ex. photographs, buttons, backgrounds, clip art, animated images, and logos)

What constitutes a page in terms of my website?
A single page is a section of your website.  (ex. home page, about us page, etc)  Each page is displayed in your browser window, one at a time.  You will click a link to go to a different page.

How long will it take for my site to be designed?
This depends on the complexity of your site and our current design commitments.  Typically, a site generally takes no more than two weeks to be designed once you have provided us with all of the content for your site.

Do I own the copyrights to my website?
You own the copyrights to any of your own work (ex. your original writing, images you created, or photographs taken by you).  You do not own the rights to any images that I create, any photographs that I take, or the design of your site.  However, you do own the rights to any logos that I create for your company.

Essentially, what this means is that you cannot alter or change the design or graphics of your website without my written consent.  Also, you do not have the right to give anyone else permission to use my design or graphics that I create.  I also can place a small signature at the bottom of your web pages letting your visitors know who created your site and I can use your website in my portfolio.

If you would like to have complete copyrights to your website (where you have total control over the layout and graphics and I relinquish all rights to it), we would negotiate an appropriate fee for the sale of those rights.

Are domain name and web address the same thing?
Yes, this is how your page is accessed on the Internet (ex. www.yourcompanyname.com)

What is web hosting?
The monthly fee you pay to an Internet Presence Provider to keep your site on the Internet.

What is maintenance?
Changes made to your existing website (update prices, add photos, etc.).

Do I need to continue to use print advertising?
Print advertising and your website work together.  Just include your web address on all of your print advertising and you are no longer limited to just the information that will fit in that ad, business card, etc.

How does my site get listed on search engines?
We submit all sites designed by Sand Dollar Webs to many search engines and directories, including AltaVista, Google, MSN, DMOZ, and more.
